Chapter IV: Land Use Policies, Capital City District

Institutions

INSTITUTIONS

Description

The Future Land Use Plan designates specific sites for a hospital, university, a technical college, a military academy and a religious centre. They are prominent sites where these large and important buildings will help to punctuate and give scale to the National Capital.

Other institutional uses will be located in the three types of urban centres.

Policies

The policies described above with respect to Government Offices should generally be applied with respect to institutional buildings.

The existing prison and nearby mental hospital should be phased out within the next ten years and the lands should be retained in cultivation until such time as required for expansion of the University.
